8 Simple Custom Solutions: Turn Times, Photos, Case Studies, FAQs
by Katie Reid on Tue, Dec 20, 2022 @ 14:12 PM
A new section of our website features examples of custom solutions we build for customers. Learn about the process and how we achieve same-day turnaround in some cases while meeting Swagelok's rigorous quality standards.
Edmonton Valve fabricates custom solutions in our Edmonton, Alberta shop. With certified technicians and large inventory, we're equipped to build leak-tight assemblies. Design, testing, and documentation included. Hose assemblies, bent tubing, and regulator assemblies tend to be quickest — sometimes taking just hours.
Performing under pressure
We can often help customers make tight deadlines. This is possible because we have full-time certified engineers and technicians dedicated to Custom Solutions, an onsite shop with all fabrication and testing equipment at the ready, large local inventory just steps from our shop, and a documented quality process that ensures precise, repeatable results.
The process starts with a needs assessment. We make sure we fully understand your needs, including time pressure. We can check inventory before designing solutions, for example, to help ensure fastest possible turnaround. With our huge warehouse onsite, there's rarely any waiting for components to arrive.
Professional design
A fluid systems expert on our dedicated Custom Solutions team analyzes customer-provided designs and/or works with the customers to create one. Should a project warrant it, we can draw on 100 more Swagelok Engineers around the world. All are technical experts in fluid and sampling systems and have comprehensive knowledge of Swagelok products and their applications—including tubing, fittings, valves, and more.
Fabrication capabilities
We can fabricate just about anything that has fluid system components on it. Fabrication, assembly, and testing are handled by Swagelok-certified technicians who have undergone extensive training to ensure consistent precision fabrication and assembly.
Tube bending: Our certified technicians deliver precise, repeatable bends. We offer support with materials selection, sizing, calculating optimal bend radius, and other factors. We offer CNC, benchtop, and hand tube bending with various materials. Our CNC bender can bend stainless steel tubing of 1/4" to 1", with any wall thickness, to any angle, up to 42" radius. More →
Hose assemblies: From ultra-flexible, smooth- bore, chemically compatible PFA hose to electrically conductive nylon hose for CNG, we build hose to handle working pressures up to 5,000 psi. We can provide assemblies using 22 types of hose/flexible tubing and 89 end connection options. Our certified technicians fabricate, inspect, test, document, and warranty every hose before it leaves our shop, so you can immediately install it. More →
Regulator assemblies: Our Assembly Services team can deliver customized pressure regulator assemblies that are ready to install. So you receive tested, warrantied, documented, repeatable results. We offer custom regulator assemblies for gas bottle or inline service, often using the KPR-Series pressure reducing regulator (KLF for 0-10 psig control range). With our Configurator Software and large local inventory, often we deliver within 48 hours. More →
Testing capabilities
Every assembly undergoes at least pressure testing before leaving our shop. We can leak test with hydro, pneumatic and helium leak test equipment. We offer tighter testing tolerances than traditional leak tests — testing down to 1x10-6. This capability is especially important to process analyzer specialists or anyone overseeing a very hazardous gas or application. Because we handle the processes in-house, we have flexibility when it comes to modifying valves, doing repairs, and the like. We can even take a unit into the field for testing.
