Meet the New Edmonton Valve Account Manager, Andrew Worthington

Customer inventory management offers steep learning curve for Edmonton Valve associates
"Drew is personable and prompt and has been pro-active in helping me meet my training and safety goals," says one Edmonton Valve customer. |
When Account Manager Andrew Worthington started with Edmonton Valve back in 2008, he sat in our customer service department, speaking directly to customers every day about their purchases, products, and industries. As a customer service representative, Andrew was responsible for advising customers and providing technical assistance in relation to our product line. With the ever-expanding Swagelok catalogue having more than 10,000 unique products, there was definitely a lot to learn. From pressure and temperature ratings, to valve rebuild kits, compatibility charts to industry terminology, every day was different and Worthington excelled in the position.
"The training at Edmonton Valve is intense. It's a steep learning curve no matter what position you are in," Worthington says. That training continues every day at the office, and some of it has been external, through the University of Alberta. He’s also made some trips to Cleveland and San Diego for additional courses. Not only does Worthington train hard for Edmonton Valve, but he also trains hard in the gym, focusing on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai kickboxing. He recently achieved his Purple belt in Jiu-Jitsu, an accomplishment that took him 6 years of training to accomplish.
The Conklin Run
Worthington’s most challenging professional learning experience has come from his recent transition into an Account Manager role. His first task to tackle was a customer inventory management position known as the Conklin run. Being a remote location, our Conklin customers depend on associates like Worthington to bring them the products that they need. Whenever various customer inventories need attention, Worthington hits the road in a one-ton truck and spends a few days visiting sites and refilling bins.
"We are helping customers there to maintain their inventory so they don't have to worry about it. We are also there for any technical requests that they have. It all helps make it easy to do business with us," he says.
Worthington knows how important the inventory is to the customers and always commits to getting the job done. His time working in Conklin has been valuable to his training too - it was and continues to be a great way to meet customers and become familiar with their needs and product applications.
Now with his own customers and accounts here in Edmonton as well as in Conklin , Worthington can apply that knowledge to new situations. However, he appreciates that some of the best resources to count on are the associates here at Edmonton Valve.
"We have a lot of guys with a lot of knowledge and experience. For my new position they have been mentoring me with all kinds of stuff I never would have even thought about," he says. "They are very good with time management and being organized. I've been taught how to be the kind of guy a customer wants to talk to."
Good thing we can count on Worthington to be that resource for other associates in the future.
