Master Regulator Selection & Troubleshooting: New Swagelok Training
by James Dickie on Mon, Oct 07, 2024 @ 14:10 PM
How do I select the right type and size regulator? What should I look for in regulator performance? Is droop avoidable? Our new Regulator Selection and Troubleshooting Training (RSTT) provides answers with hands-on training and practical exercises. Classes are forming now.
I'm excited to introduce our new Swagelok® Regulator Selection and Troubleshooting Training (RSTT). This half-day workshop is designed for professionals who need to master the selection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of regulators in their fluid systems. This course equips you with essential knowledge on regulator function, design features, and applications. You'll learn about common installation errors and practical ways to troubleshoot and maintain regulators, ensuring your systems run smoothly and efficiently.
Classes are forming now for the Swagelok Regulator Selection and Troubleshooting Training (RSTT), a globally standardized half-day instruction on industry best practices. We offer sessions at the Swagelok Edmonton Training Centre and onsite trainings for groups in Edmonton, Drayton Valley, Fort McMurray, and Lloydminster.
Hands-on learning
Our training includes in-person demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and theoretical explanations. You'll interact with various regulators and apply what you learn through problem-solving activities. The curriculum covers terminology, performance characteristics, flow dynamics, modifying performance, regulator types, system thinking, selection process, and lifecycle management.
Why this training matters
Getting regulators exactly right is more challenging than selecting other fluid system components, like valves or fittings. In one of the most common types of regulators, a spring loaded pressure reducing regulator, a spring controls the outlet pressure by applying downward force on a sensing element such as a diaphragm. The downward force from the sensing element opens a poppet to let more fluid through. When enough fluid is entering, the inlet pressure pushes up on the poppet. The regulator keeps the forces in balance at the pressure you set.Incorrect regulator selection or overlooked problems can result in costly downtime, safety incidents, and inefficiencies. For example:
- In a power plant, a miscalibrated regulator could lead to steam leaks—reducing efficiency and increasing operational costs
- In hydrogen production or storage facilities, improper pressure control can pose serious safety hazards
- In any industrial application, managing mixtures of special gasses incorrectly at points of use can compromise product quality and lead to expensive rework
This training offers foundational skills that can help you avoid these issues, ultimately saving your company time and money.
