Trusted Swagelok Components for Extreme Conditions (Customer Video)
by Katie Reid on Wed, May 31, 2023 @ 08:05 AM
Triton Submarines built the first and only ultra-deep submersible certified to "Depth: Unlimited". In the video below, leadership at Triton EMEA discusses why Triton specifies Swagelok in its critical applications.
On the surface of the earth, atmospheric pressure is just under 15 PSI. At the deepest point on Earth, a zone called Challenger Deep in the Pacific Ocean's Mariana Trench, the atmospheric pressure is over 16,000 PSI. In 2019, a Triton 36000/2 model named Limiting Factor not only carried a person to record-breaking depths in Challenger Deep, but repeated the feat in days afterward.

In 2023 the Triton 36000/2 is still the world's "first and only submersible certified to Depth: Unlimited". Limiting Factor is "the world’s deepest diving, currently operational submarine," according to a 2019 statement by the expedition.
"A few years ago, we decided that our submersibles would have components only by Swagelok," says Hector Salvador, Technical Director/Operations, Triton Submarines EMEA in this 2022 Swagelok video:
In this video Triton Submarines EMEA discusses specifying only Swagelok components for their critical applications.
"There are several reasons for that. The first is that Swagelok components can be found all over the world. Our submarines operate on every continent. We have a fleet of submarines that operate in the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and the Caribbean, so it's a huge bonus to go to the nearest Swagelok distributor wherever we are and find exactly the right component."
Over 200 Swagelok Sales and Service Centers operate worldwide. Each center is an independently owned and operated company authorized to represent Swagelok in a specific region. Edmonton Valve serves parts of Canada.
"There are also advantages in terms of certifications," adds Salvador. "All Swagelok fittings come with certificates required by the ship classification societies that certify these submarines. Moreover, it's easy to assemble systems with Swagelok components."
Swagelok fittings and other components have approval for critical applications from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), United States Navy, and other entities.
Swagelok’s innovative FK medium-pressure compression fittings and adapters offer a leak-tight gas seal and vibration resistance in applications up to 22,500 psig (1551 bar). FK fittings are offered in 316 stainless steel, alloy 2507 super duplex (NACE and NORSOK-compliant), and alloy 625 (NACE-compliant) with proven performance on a variety of tubing types and materials.

"Swagelok has a fantastic reputation in the industry," adds Kelvin Magee, Chief Mechanic, Triton Submarines Florida.
"This has been a great partnership that has enabled us to make a submarine using only Swagelok components, says Salvador. "It couldn't be easier. The way they treat us is excellent, with immediate response times."
